“Our war is trending.”
Hot Sects is a blood-soaked mini-series about the rise and fall of a contemporary cult. It follows a nihilistic Internet troll who enslaves his friends in a cult to satisfy his sick sense of humour. He teaches that to break free from the shackles of a doomed planet they must be indifferent to everything. They must push themselves to the limit, physically, sexually and even morally, until eventually the cult slips through his blood soaked hands and runs naked into the countryside.
Hot Sects takes you on a road trip through the backwaters of British Columbia: lush, deserted islands, ghost towns ravaged by resource extraction, and enormous forest fires. By blending social commentary with slasher movie sensationalism, Hot Sects embodies the significance of the seductive image and illustrates the consequences of valuing that allure above all else.
Hot Sects is a satirical nightmare about privilege in a social bubble where peak-oil, cultural genocide, and the collapse of contemporary society is less important than coolness and getting high.
Hot Sects is the conclusion to a series of films that started with Crusade in 2015.
